I filled out a general form online looking for help or a loan mainly regarding bankruptcy and home foreclosure that I am facing. A company claiming to be GE Capital called my home phone line multiple times, which I eventually answered after researching who GE Capital is (General Electric Capital Loans) - I suspect they are just using that name and are not affiliated in any way.

They said I was approved for up to $5,000 in loans if I could pay 1/3 of the monthly payback cost in advance to verify that I had any funds. At the time it seemed reasonable. I requested a loan of $2,000 and they agreed to an upfront verification that I had at least $80 dollars to my name by putting the money onto a Greendot Moneypak for verification. Once I had done this they emptied the Greendot money from my card, and then claimed repeatedly that 1) my bank account EFT, electronic fund transfer, was not turned on 2) If I could pay an additional $215.00 they could get the transfer through 3) Again after I declined to pay anything additional and grew increasingly angry they again claimed my EFT was not turned on.

I verified with my bank, Citizens Bank, that EFT was and always has been turned on for my account.

I did not fall prey to the additional $215.00 loss thankfully and filed complaints against them with the FBI, BBB, and Consumer Protection agency. The BBB seems the most promising in terms of outcome
